I recently attended NECC 2008 in San Antonio to participate in the awards ceremony held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Myself, along with Monica Cougan and Bev Mattocks – both with CILC, took first place honors in the ISTE 2008 SIGTel Online Learning Award.
The SigTel Online Learning Award celebrates creative educators for their pioneering use of tele-learning activities to provide innovative learning opportunities for k-16 students. Winners receive an invitation to present their project at a NECC poster session. – handout from NECC 2008
I also co-presented an IVC Showcase session with Monica and Bev, (CILC), entitled “Students as Content Provider: Programs By Students For Students.” In addition, two of my broadcast journalism students, Samantha Carter and Ashley Scroggins, joined the session via distance from Howe, OK. The students were a big hit with the session attendees. Ashley and Samantha even took time to throw a lady lions play-off t-shirt all the way from Howe, OK to San Antonio, TX. Both students are members of the award-winning Virtual Field Trip team which placed first in CILC’s Kids Creating Community Content Contest (KC3) sponsored by CILC and Tandberg. Here’s one of the many comments from the NECC IVC session attendees:
